Boquete does not have an extensive history but the history this small town has does provide insight as to why it is a remote and humble abode for many people.  Boquete Panama was discovered as Spanish gold seekers were trekking through an opening that they believed to be a faster route to the Pacific.  Some travelers decided to make this Panamanian paradise their home, creating a life out of cultivating the fertile land at the end of the 1800s.  Boquete became official in 1911 and in 2011 the residents of this town will be celebrating its 100th anniversary on April 11th. People who come to Boquete appreciate the abundant natural resources like mountains covered by forests reserves, national parks (great hiking!), an extraordinary fauna diversity, creeks of crystal clear waters, idyllic rivers and a majestic volcano.

Another attraction to Boquete is the climate.  Between the months December and March, there is the summer dry season while the winter or wet season runs from April to November.  Since Boquete is high above sea level, this area tends to be much cooler especially at night.  with fresh temperatures. However, the cool breezes are often comforting under the hot Panamanian sun. Another plus: no big storms.
